About Us

Our Origins
We're Black Bear Bakery. We got our start from just a small apartment in New York, seventeen years ago.
Our founder, Eloise Marquez, began her business at just eighteen years old. Now our head pastry chef, Eloise has experience in baking pet-friendly confections. She named Black Bear Bakery after her black lab, Bear. Bear loved all food - but he especially loved homemade treats. With Eloise's current enrollment in culinary school, she was making the best homemade treats around.
After making these homemade treats for Bear and later other family pets, she began to expand into local Farmer's Markets with the help of her family. When a customer suggested she could make similar delicious treats for humans, Eloise took that opportunity.
Inspired by Bear’s love of home baked goods, and her passion of baking for her furry friend, Eloise decided to expand on her knowledge of pastries; she started a business, offering all kinds of baked goods- not for pets this time, but for humans.
After fifteen years of service in downtown New York and a bustling location after our remodel, Black Bear Bakery stands today with the quality guarantee of sweet and savory treats always made with love.
Our Promise
100% local, 100% made with love. That's our promise.
Eloise, and her beloved team members, make every pastry with love and care. We use locally sourced, fresh ingredients in our creations, along with traditional baking methods, to bring authentic taste to customers. All of our ingredients come from local farmers across the East Coast. Besides supporting local communities, we also want to provide the highest quality of ingredients. All of our flour is 100% organic, a feat that many pastry places have yet to achieve. We also source all of our teas from Asia, including our Ceremonial Matcha, which comes directly shipped from Japan.
Our team prides themselves in their ability to make home-made goods that bring joy and satisfy taste buds. Jump in for a bite; you won't be left unsatisfied!
